<![CDATA[Redemption Sports Lifestyle August Blog]]> http://redemptionsports.com/whats-happening/postredemption-sports-lifestyle http://redemptionsports.com/whats-happening/postredemption-sports-lifestyle Mon, 11 Aug 2014 00:00:00 GMT We are absolutely loving wakesurfing here at Redemption Sports! Wakesurfing is an awesome water sport to enjoy on Lake Tahoe, like many of the employees at Redemption Sports!

What is wakesurfing? It is a newer water sport where a surfer trails closely behind a wakeboard boat, surfing the boat's wake without being attached to the boat, like wakeboarding. Boats wake is similar in look and feel to an actual ocean wave and wakesurfers ride the face of this wake in a way that is a lot like ocean surfing.

How do you wakesurf? The wakesurfer starts out sitting in the water on the side of the boat that he intends to surf with both the wakesurf board and the rope in hand. The surfer will place his feet on top of the wakesurf board in a stance similar to how he would surf, whether it be ''goofy'' (meaning with the right foot forward) or ''regular'' (meaning with the left foot forward), with the side of the board being perpendicular to the boat. The surfer will then grab the rope with both hand and drape it over the center of the board in between his feet. To take the slack out of the rope and allow the board to gain contact with the soles of the surfer's feet, the boat will begin to move forward a bit while the surfer pushed down with his heels on the edge of the board. Once the surfer feels that is all in place, he gives the signal to the driver to gas it and pull him up. The surfer will then stand up at the same time and allow the board to turn frontward. The boat driver will accelerate at a moderate pace until the target speed for the surfer is reached. This right speed is all determined by the form, area, and span of the desired wake. When that correct speed is reached, the surfer will continually adjust his pressure on the board to determine where the perfect spot on the wake is. You will be able to tell because the rope goes slack and is no longer needed. Then you can toss the rope in the boat or the opposite side of the wake for those in the boat to get.

Note: This should be done on a boat where the propeller is under the boat! Also weigh down the back of the boat on the side you will be surfing on to create a larger wake. The deeper the boat is in the water, the bigger the wake will be. Recommended rope length is 8 to 10 feet. Use a wakesurf board, they are generally 5 feet or shorter.

Come check out our Liquid Force wakesurf boards for sale and get out there and try it!

<![CDATA[We will be at the TA-HOE NALU Paddle Festival]]> http://redemptionsports.com/whats-happening/posttahoe_nalu http://redemptionsports.com/whats-happening/posttahoe_nalu Mon, 11 Aug 2014 00:00:00 GMT TA-HOE NALU Paddle Festival

North Lake Tahoe plays host to the oldest and longest-running paddleboard festival in the world, Ta-Hoe Nalu, August 15-17, 2014 at Kings Beach State Park - Kings Beach, CA. A flagship event for the fast-growing sport, and the lifestyle and community it represents, Ta-Hoe Nalu will celebrate its 8th year this summer.

Ta-Hoe Nalu celebrates the 'aloha spirit' and the excitement of a growing community of stand up paddle boarding (SUP) around the world and in Lake Tahoe. Known as one of the best 'flat-water' paddle boarding locations in the world, Lake Tahoe is home to a rapidly expanding paddleboard community. The three-day event has grown from grass-roots to a multi-event festival, complete with a variety of competitions, demos and clinics, board and accessory vendors, entertainment, great food, and thousands of spectators and participants.

Ta-Hoe Nalu grew to become what it is today from the experiences and interest of a variety of people. In the summer of 2005, founder Ernie Brassard and his good friend Rick Thomas, from San Diego, tried paddling Rick's Surf SUP on Lake Tahoe. They immediately realized how cool it was to paddle Tahoe's clear and calm water and explore the lake's extensive shoreline. Tahoe's amazing clarity and beauty made the paddle boarding experience even more impressive.

''We thought back then that it would be fun to get some of our friends to bring their big boards to Tahoe and do a paddle,'' says Brassard.

In late 2006, Ernie acquired a new custom SUP from Bob Pearson of Arrow Surf in Santa Cruz. The two were discussing the rising interest in Stand Up Paddle surfing and Pearson mentioned that he wanted come up and paddle and do a crossing of Lake Tahoe.

Back in Tahoe, Ernie started paddling frequently.

''I kept thinking of Rick and Bob's idea of getting folks up to paddle the Lake,'' he recalls.

He met Phil Segal, owner of Tahoe Paddle and Oar in Kings Beach who was adding SUP's to his retail store and had begun turning people on to the sport and after discussing the idea with Chris Thibaut, owner of Jake's on the Lake restaurant in Tahoe City and friends Chris Carnevalle and Jay Valois who had both started paddling that year, he decided to look into putting on a race.

The first Ta-Hoe Nalu race was scheduled for August 8, 2007. It would be a seven mile paddle from Jake's on the Lake in Tahoe City to Captain Jon's restaurant in Tahoe Vista. While Brassard and Segal drummed up interest in Tahoe, Rick and Bob got the word out in Southern California and Santa Cruz. On Friday Auguat 7, 2007, a pre-race party was hosted by Jake's on the Lake and by Saturday morning, thirty-four folks from San Diego, Santa Cruz and Baja, and approximately nine people from Lake Tahoe competed in what would become the first ever SUP race. Dave King, of Santa Cruz and Kim Wittman from Cabo San Lucas became the first ever SUP champions.

There are now hundreds of SUP races and events across the nation and the world each year. This year's Ta-Hoe Nalu is expected to attract up to 4000 spectators and competitors from all over the globe. Elite Athletes from Italy, Australia, France, South America, Hawaii and throughout the United States will compete for $10,000 in prize money. The three-day festival includes racing for all ages and skill levels, free demos and clinics for all, entertainment, exceptional food, and most of all, a vibrant community of enthusiasts - pros and amateur - that have discovered the fun and excitement of stand up paddle boarding.

The 2014 Ta-Hoe Nalu Stand Up Paddle Festival is presented by Nature's Bakery. All are invited to come paddle the ''Big Blue'' and enjoy the fun, family, friends and high sierra Aloha August 15-17 in Kings Beach, CA.

<![CDATA[September is National Preparedness Month]]> http://redemptionsports.com/whats-happening/postseptember-is-national-preparedness-month http://redemptionsports.com/whats-happening/postseptember-is-national-preparedness-month Fri, 24 Aug 2012 00:00:00 GMT National Preparedness Month (NPM is sponsored by FEMA’s Ready Campaign in partnership with Citizen Corps. NPM is held each September to encourage Americans to make sure they are prepared for disasters or emergencies in their homes, businesses, and communities. One of the most important parts of any Emergency Plan is having a complete Emergency Kit. A kit is simply a collection of basic items your household may need in the event of an emergency.

Try to assemble your kit well in advance of an emergency. You may have to evacuate at a moment’s notice and take essentials with you. You will probably not have time to search for the supplies you need or shop for them. You may need to survive on your own after an emergency. This means having your own food, water and other supplies in sufficient quantity to last for at least 72 hours. Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster but they cannot reach everyone immediately. You could get help in hours or it might take days.

At RedePack, all of our packs meet www.ready.gov guidelines and contain food, water and supplies for a full 72 hours. We’ve spent years assembling products and building our survival packs to ensure that we only bring you items that we would use ourselves. We’ve performed exhaustive product testing. We’ve eaten the food, worn the ponchos, wound the chargers, used the tools and whatever else it took to make sure that what we are selling won’t let you down! We don’t believe in being afraid, but we do believe in being prepared. And that is the basis for all of our pack designs. Our line was designed to serve the purpose of taking care of you, and yours, in an actual emergency or survival situation. Contact us today to find out how RedePack can assist you with your Emergency Plan.
